Design

When you see the Bentayga EWB Azure heading towards you, the first thing that will strike you is the elegant detailing on the front of the car. Almost everything is rendered in a polished chrome finish, including both the main grille and the matching lower bumper grilles. The exclusive 22” wheels are every bit as eye-catching, with a stunning 10-spoke design available in a choice of three different finishes. You can also add the optional Animated Welcome Lamps by Mulliner, which project a swirling light show onto the ground when you open the door. From the Azure badging and the Bentley ‘B’ badge on each D-pillar to the jewelled oil and fuel filler caps, the attention to detail is astonishing.

Although the length of the wheelbase has been extended by 180mm, the car’s proportions remain perfect. The extra space is focused on the rear cabin, so from the outside, you will notice a subtle extension to the rear door and roofline. Step inside, however, and it transforms the interior space, offering far more legroom for passengers in the rear cabin.

Illuminated Azure treadplates greet you as you get in, each one inscribed with the words, ‘Handcrafted in Crewe, England’. Electric rear doors close softly at the touch of a button. And once inside, you will experience the combination of space, light and luxurious features that makes the Azure so special. Bentley Diamond Illumination, for example, allows light to flow through the leather trim itself, to stunning effect. Azure badging can be seen on the fascia and Azure embroidery on the seats. An exclusive new quilting pattern has been designed to emphasise the sense of space. From the two-tone heated steering wheel to the new, even more sumptuous Deep Pile Overmats at your feet, everything comes together to boost the comfort and wellbeing of all occupants.

Performance

The Bentayga EWB Azure is incredibly easy to drive. A 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine produces 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque – enough power to deliver the smooth, surging acceleration you expect from Bentley. It can take you from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds). Top speed is 180 mph (290 km/h).

You also benefit from the Bentley Dynamic Ride system, an electrically powered anti-roll system that prevents the cabin from rolling to the left or right when cornering at speed, but without compromising the softness of the ride during normal driving. The V8 also comes with All-Wheel Steering, so you can manoeuvre your Bentayga EWB effortlessly, even in tight city streets.

Technology

The Bentley Airline Seat Specification introduces a truly unique set of features for rear-seat comfort. The seats recline, with a footrest deploying from the seat in front automatically as they do so. And the front passenger seat can be folded forward if unoccupied, giving the person sitting behind it even more space. But the extra space is only the beginning. All four main seats are equipped with Seat Auto Climate – a world-first technology featuring sensors that enable the seat surfaces to maintain pre-set temperature and humidity levels, cooling or warming as required. They also feature Postural Adjust, which uses air cushions beneath the seat surface to make tiny adjustments in sequences of up to three hours. This stimulates muscles and blood flow, reducing the fatigue and stiffness that can set in on long journeys.

When it comes to infotainment, you can opt to upgrade to either the Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system, which includes stunning illuminated speaker grilles, or the Naim for Bentley system, for truly unrivalled sound quality. There is also the optional Bentley Rear Entertainment system, which lets passengers in the rear stream content from their smartphones directly to the 10.1” screens mounted on the backs of the front seats. They can listen to the audio through the earphones provided, through their own equipment or even through the speakers of the audio system.

For the driver, the Touring Specification makes long trips easier than ever. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Guidance, so you can take your feet off the pedals during highway driving, even if traffic slows to a crawl or a standstill. The Lane Guidance element, meanwhile, will ensure you stay in the centre of your lane and remind you to indicate if you try to change lanes without doing so. Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control allows you to enjoy the benefits of cruise control beyond the highway, automatically adjusting your speed in response to changing speed limits.

The car can park itself – and you can even step outside and instruct it to do so via your phone, if the space looks like it might be too tight to open the door. A new 3D surround view gives you a perfect view of your surroundings, wherever you are, while Manoeuvre Assist will warn you of any potential bumps or scrapes.

As well as support for Apple CarPlay* and Android Auto**, My Bentley connected services include a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and the My Bentley app, for connecting to your car remotely. There is also the new My Bentley App Studio, which allows you to download the apps of your choice to run directly on the car’s infotainment system, rather than your phone. This means that, if you are using your chosen navigation app, for example, it will have full access to data from the car, such as fuel and range levels.

Personalisation

Any Bentley bearing the Azure name comes with a generous standard specification. But there will always be additions or personal choices you wish to make. It starts with the exterior colour. There are seven to choose from as standard, however with Bentley’s extended range and the Mulliner range of finishes, your choice rises to around 60 colours. This total includes new Opalite and Gravity Grey, as well as a range of new satin options.

Stunning as the standard 22” wheels are, there are alternatives, including a 5-spoke design at the same size – which can be commissioned with a new Pale Brodgar satin painted finish – and a 21” option. Inside, you can choose from Bentley’s entire colour range for the leather upholstery, including single-colour schemes and two-tone options, either of which can include the new Gravity Grey hide colour. Contrast stitching, piping and even hand cross-stitching can also be applied, for extra depth and definition, with contrast stitching and hand cross-stitching now available together for the first time.

You can choose from Bentley’s full range of veneers, which now includes contemporary open-pore wood finishes, which use less lacquer. There are also more traditional high-gloss woods, which you can adorn further with the addition of metal overlays. Painted finishes include Piano Black, Piano Linen by Mulliner and three new colours: Cricket Ball, Imperial Blue and Burnt Oak. Lastly, there are more technical options, such as Carbon Fibre or Dark Tint Diamond Brushed Aluminium.
